What is a temporary role?

Temporary roles are in high demand with a lot of businesses recruiting temporary positions to fill gaps within their organisations. These positions are a great short-term solution to cover roles where a permanent staff member may be on leave / sick or for roles that you need a cover for a short-term period rather than employing a full-time member of staff.

What is a contracting role?

As opposed to temporary roles, contracting is a period of temporary employment which can last anywhere from one day to even several months. These roles may be paid on an arranged hourly or daily rate or a pro-rata per annum basis and may vary between part-time and full-time roles.

What are the benefits of a temporary or contracting role?

Temporary roles are great for people who like the flexibility of casual, hourly work. This could be a good way to gain experience into a new area or to learn a new system, or for income while you are seeking a permanent role or even while you’re on a working visa.

There are many benefits when choosing contracting work over temporary work including receiving the leave benefits that temporary staff aren’t entitled to. This type of work offers a predictable pattern of work and contractors are aware of the duration of their role and the completion date.

Should you be looking for a role that gives you the flexibility, but also a certain level of job security when your contract may be coming to an end, then contracting would be the right career model for you.
